How do you handle roof penetration points like chimneys, skylights, and vent pipes to ensure they are 100% watertight?

Our thoughts are:

Roof penetration points are the most common source of leaks, so we treat them with extreme care. We use specialized metal work called flashing (typically aluminum or galvanized steel) around all points where the roof plane is interrupted. For chimneys, we utilize step flashing and counter flashing that is embedded into the masonry, not just sealed over, to create a permanent, watertight transition. For skylights and vents, we use custom flashing and a layer of Ice and Water Shield beneath the shingles to create redundant leak protection. We don’t seal leaks; we prevent them structurally.
